Hydros is a collaborative initiative focused on safeguarding the
groundwater resources of South Iceland.
By combining science, innovation, and partnership, Hydros aims to protect the integrity of the groundwater system for future generations.
Sustainable management through continuous monitoring and responsible utilization
Great responsibility
The groundwater resource in Ölfus is among the richest in the entire country and forms the foundation for value-creating activities ranging from aquaculture to beverage production.
It is roughly estimated that the utilization of up to 65,000 liters per second of fresh water and underground seawater may take place in the coming years, making it essential to ensure comprehensive monitoring and management of the resource.
In this way, sustainability and prosperity can best be secured.
“Let’s build and create value — without depleting the reserves permanently. In this way, we can create a brighter future for everyone.”
